On engine swaps..

  • When starting an engine for the first time, check all holes in the block.. You'd be surprised how many actually enter the water jacket, or the oil channels.
  • You'd also be surprised at how much sand it takes to fix a garage floor covered in 5qts of oil in under a minute.
  • Wood screws stuck inside the intake holding a valve wide open make it VERY difficult to tune an engine properly.
  • Improperly rebuilt carbeurators can result in a lot of gas on the exhaust manifold. Replace the screws holding the bowl together.

On transmission swaps..

  • When bleeding a clutch, avoid getting brake fluid in the tear-duct of your eye.. it REALLY burns.
  • When the pilot shaft doesn't sink into the pilot bushing for more than 6 hours, swear a lot, give up for the night, and try again tomorrow.

On stripped bolts..

  • Torx bolts are great: they leave a pilot hole for your drill bit when they strip out.
